News Item 29 - New rules for swimwear

Please be aware that FINA, at their annual congress held in Rome during July 2009, passed a law stating that there would be a change in the rules relating to swimming costumes. The clause below was passed:

In swimming competitions the competitor must wear only one swimsuit in one or two pieces which for men shall not extend above the navel nor below the knee, and for women, shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor shall extend below knee. All swimsuits shall be made from textile materials. No additional items, like arm bands or leg bands shall be regarded as parts of a swimsuit.

It is understood that this will be ratified and hence become law from 1st January 2010

We are bringing this to your notice to ensure care is taken in replacing swimmers costumes

News Item 28 - Clugston Reclaims Welsh Record/Triple gold for Lankford

Chesterfield swimmer Harriet Clugston reclaimed the Welsh Junior 50m Freestyle short course record at the Midland Short Course Championships in Corby. Harriet achieved a time of 26.74 seconds beating the old mark of 26.81.

Jamie Lankford dominated the Junior Butterfly events by taking the 50m (26.55), 100m (59.65) and 200m (2.14.99) titles. Jamie's total dedication to training is now paying off making him one of the top junior fly swimmers in the country.

Other great swims came from Amy Holland and Alex Barrett. Amy smashed her 50m (28.86) and 100m (1.02.37) Freestyle personal best times. Alex became the first swimmer in our club history to swim below 2 minutes (1.58.74) on the 200m freestyle.

Well done to all Chesterfield swimmers involved in the championship.

News Item 27 - Important note to parents of swimmers who attend Brookfield School

Dear Parents

Re Brookfield Community School

As a condition of our hire agreement with the school we are not allowed to have parents on poolside except to act as a spotter to assist the coach.

However some parents are causing the club to break this agreement by opening the laundry room door in order to enter the grounds to watch through the windows, this is not acceptable.

Swimmers parents are not authorised to enter the laundry room or use it as a thoroughfare.

While this may be inconvenient and to some disappointing, particularly with younger swimmers, we need to comply with the hire agreement and the Milk Bar is open for you to wait should you wish to stay on site.

Unlocking the door compromises the security of the school and hence our sessions and swimmers.

It is our intention to offer training in a happy, secure and friendly environment please help us to do this.

Kind regards
Mike Ward
